How has the year 2004 shaped up?
2004 has turned out to be a good year for me. Yuva, Hum Tum and Veer Zaara, it's extremely gratifying to get favourable response from people when you toil hard.
Do you think you are the number one actress in the industry?
It feels wonderful to be able to move people. I am not interested in the number game. I have lots of work and can't sit thinking about whether I am the best in the industry. I am happy with what I have done. But I still have miles to go...
What films are in the pipeline?
I am looking forward to the release of The Rising. Then comes Bunty Aur Babli. Shooting for Karan Johar's film should start in May. There is Ravi Chopra's Babul also in the pipeline. I wanted to do Mira Nair's The Namesake. But I couldn't manage my dates. I have begun shooting for Shah Rukh Khan's home production that's being directed by Amol Palekar.
Any Hollywood plans?
I don't have any agents in Hollywood. Neither do I intend to have agents there. I am happy working here and am content with the fact that critics and the box office are giving a positive response to my work. There is so much for me to explore in Bollywood that I am really not keen on going overboard over trying to make a career in the West.
What's happening on the personal front?
I am dying to fall in love. I would also want to get married and experience motherhood. I would want to continue my work. But right now, my career is my priority.
What's the real Rani like?
I have always believed in a positive approach towards life: Whenever I do anything in life, I am always thinking positive. That way, I can transmit positivity all around me too. That belief has been reinforced in me when I played the role of the visually challenged girl in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film.
